Officer Nominations

We are in a season of nominations for the offices of Elder and Deacon through June 4.

Men ordained to the offices of elder and deacon are expected to serve as long as they remain members of this church and continue to be re-elected by the congregation (when they come off of sabbatical). This is a sober undertaking both for them and the church.  The men that are chosen are the ones to whose leadership and care you are pledging to submit.

It is recommended that you follow the following process as you consider men you might nominate for these offices.

  1. Read I Timothy 3:1-13 and Titus 1:5-9.
  2. Read Bylaw articles pertaining to officers in the church
  3. Read the officer examination questions
  4. PRAYERFULLY consider your nomination of men from among the congregation with these qualifications in mind.
  5. Complete the nomination form by Monday, June 4

FYI: Those nominated in the past are eligible to be nominated again.

Information for Nominees

Each nominee will be asked to fill out a nominee questionnaire regarding personal views on theological and practical issues within the church. Not all nominees will continue in the process for a variety of reasons. Listed below are a few of the reasons why this might be:

  1. The nominee does not desire to be considered for the office.
  2. A struggle in the nominee’s life that requires resolution.
  3. The nominee’s lack of spiritual maturity or some other qualification.

The nominees who wish to continue in the process will begin a season of officer training which includes a 12-week Sunday School class from September through November. This initial class is designed to help the men better understand the requirements for the office. After this class those willing to continue in the process will be examined by the session and upon being approved will be presented to the congregation as candidates for the office. These men will serve one year as a candidate (which includes their time serving as a nominee) after which, they will again be examined by the session and then presented to the congregation. The congregation will then decide by way of a vote whether these men are called to their respective offices.
